It's probably possible to use the standard Git command line tools to write a much better and faster VCS plugin. Nemo-RabbitVCS exists principally because it's the only thing that existed for Nautilus and was quick to port.
It is a problem that's been on my mind recently, since I've got a very nice workflow of GUI tools which I currently use from the git command line.
