Worked on these a while ago but we never reviewed so figured I'd add them here and start some discussion. There are multiple UI changes in these mocks but the main changes that pertain to this issue are the More Options/Section Options/Column Options.

I've moved the Column # dropdown up to the main bar and the Display Title into the options and given the expands a bar that spans the full width of the section or column. Inside the options I'm trying to find a layout that will allow the image background selector to be more consistent between section and column (as well as improve what these options look like responsively). I have a four column layout in the works still.

The idea for the background image is, once selected, the image could show masked/cropped into the existing space where the icon is instead of displaying the full image (depending on your section height you could not see the entire image displayed on the front end anyway). This would make things more predictable when on smaller screens.

I just had another idea that fits into this new menu UI as well. With new add-ons there may be more menu options that we'd want to add to a section. The Section Options bar, I think, could easily be divided into two or three expands in the same space and we can keep those options all separate. That way the add-on doesn't need to mess with fitting options into the existing menu and keeping it responsive, it can simply add a new expand and throw whatever it needs in it.

@erroneous5000 just a few things that jump out to me based on an issue brought to light by @prkirby in #71

By moving the column controls to the top bar we're locking potential future expansion to have multiple rows within 1 section (instead of treating a section like a row).

I'm torn on how big the options areas are. It's a lot of real estate for a toggle.

The controls area needs more discussion just based on #72. Developers having the ability to add their own controls may be a challenge.

Going to close this older issue out. We've made some good changes in 1.2.4 that I feel made the menu clearer and is in line with the iconography that is currently in the customizer
