The best implementation would be to add a view setting that holds the line ending type, then based on that setting, look for and add \r\n, \n, or \r instead of \n as appropriate. Test it by setting that setting in tests, and adding different line endings to the test cases. I recommend starting with one command that does stuff with newlines (paste for example).
