Hello there @emilianobilli how are you doing?

It's true that Pythagoras' distance formula is not great to measure distance on large scales and spherical like Earth. It's normally used for "purely" flat surfaces, like grids in video games.

In this project though the idea was to compare any sort of calculation distance (in this case pythagoras) vs using a quadtree structure. To highlight how the tree structure has a higher efficiency. At the end of the day, any sort of calculation in large numbers will be slower than the quadtree, due to O(N) complexity.

The quadtree structure will help you out with the bulk of the search, once you find your smallest node you can calculate proper distances using either Pythagoras (depending on the size of your last node, it should be fine) or Haversine.
