The error indicates the function does not exist for that name and the argument data types. What is the postgresql function's signature (the data types of each parameter)? If you need to cast, you can use the double-colon in your SQL after each argument. (See https://www.hugsql.org/#colon)

Oh, that makes total sense! Now I understand the error message - specially the last sentence.

For future beginners with the same problem I will show how my solution looks like:

The function in the database was defined something like

CREATE OR REPLACE function a_fake_user_defined_function(argument1 text, argument2 text, argument3 date, argument date, argument 5 int)

And in the sql file HugSQL imports I needed to type cast as suggested

-- :name a-fake-name :? :1
-- :doc some fake documentation

select * from a_fake_user_defined_function(:arg1::text, :arg2::text, :arg3::date, :arg4::date, 1); 

from hugsql.
