I wanted something similar - I am not using the stripe part, just the Card validation & formatting.
What I have done is just referenced this line within my own controller:
card = Cards.fromNumber($scope.wedding.CARDNO);
and then card is an object with a property of type.
If I get a chance I will add some card icons and a directive for highlighting the correct one. I also need to have the ability to reject certain cards depending on the country so will look at adding that as well.
