Blank screen when using Console with Composite using Raspbian image 2013-02-09
Works fine in X-Windows or Console with HDMI. Also works fine on previous
versions of Raspbian.
No current workaround known.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. turn on scan lines
2. run a vector game
3.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Vector games in real life don't have scan lines. Mame4all-pi breaks up the
vectors with the scanlines effect. The expected behavior is to have scan lines
on raster games and no scan lines on vector games.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
latest pimame distro .7.8.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Run a game such as Liquidkids or Gemini Wings.
2. One minute or less into the game, when there is a lot of activity going on,
the action starts crawling down and the keyboard stops working, so we can't
play or even quit Mame4all.
3.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The game continues working but the keyboard stops operating. Only a
CTRL+ALT+Backspace does the trick, closing XWindows and dumping me into the
command line.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Raspbery Pi Model B 512MB, Raspbian 2013-02-09 fully updated. Firmware/Kernel
3.6.11+ #437 .

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Keep default mame.cfg
2. Run mame -norotate gauntlet (or any ROM that displays better in landscape
mode)
3. Run mame -norotate rocnrope (or any ROM that displays better in portrait
mode)
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
As expected, gauntlet is displayed right-side-up with the top of the game at
the top of my monitor, and rocnrope is displayed sideways with the top of the
game at the right side of my monitor.
What I would like to see is no change for gauntlet, but I would like to see the
top of rocnrope on the left side of my monitor instead of the right side.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
This is on Raspberry Pi. I don't recall the version, but I installed MAME4all
from the store site no more than a 1 or 2 months ago.
Please provide any additional information below.
My cabinet only allows the monitor to be physically rotated clockwise 90
degrees (by the player) for portrait mode, which is why I care about the
direction of the ROM displays when in portrait mode.
The rocnrope problem can be corrected by changing the rotate/flip settings in
name.cfg and/or /boot/config.txt, but then that messes up the
gauntlet(landscape) orientation.
Right now, the only way I know how to get around this problem would be to make
a look-up table for every ROM to tell me which ROMS are portrait and which ones
are landscape and configure according to the specific ROM, which would be fine
for a small number of ROMS, but exhausting for a very large number.
Thanks and keep up the great work!

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Go into a game from frontend
2. Please tab and change the UI menu keys
3. Go back to mame4all front-end and use new keys
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I am using X-arcade and the joystick maps to 8, 4, 9, 2 (up,down, left, right).
It looks like mame4all-pi front end uses the actual up, down, left, right
keys. Therefore, I am unable to control the frontend using my joystick.
Configuring the keys in mame doesn't appear to take effect for the front end.

I did a quick review of the source code and noticed in src/rpi/input.cpp that
you are mapping [ to KEY_OPENBRACE and ] to KEY_CLOSEBRACE in struct
KeyboardInfo. However, in struct SDLtranslate you have KEY_OPENBRACE mapping
to SDLK_LEFTPAREN and KEY_CLOSEBRACE to SDLK_RIGHTPAREN. I am attempting to
compile the code after changing those mappings to SDLK_LEFTBRACKET and
SDLK_RIGHTBRACKET, respectively, to see if that fixes the issue.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Go into the input settings for "general" or the currently playing ROM.
2. Select an input to re-assign the keystroke.
3. (Be using a USB HID keyboard)
4. Press either the left Alt key or the right Alt key.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to see LAlt or RAlt being assigned to the input, depending on which
Alt key I pressed, similarly to seeing LCtrl/RCtrl or LShift/RShift. However,
I only see "Alt". Upon further testing, MAME does not seem to be able to tell
the difference between the right Alt and left Alt.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
This is on Raspberry Pi. I don't recall the version, but I installed MAME4all
from the store site no more than a 1 or 2 months ago.
Please provide any additional information below.
Additional info in case it helps... a USB keyboard can only report 6
simultaneous key presses at a time, unless the "modifier" byte is used in the
report to indicate left/right ctrl/alt/shift/gui keys. I am making a
two-player cabinet with an Arduino that mimics a USB keyboard. By MAME not
telling the difference between left/right Alt, I have one less simultaneous key
stroke that I can depend on mapping to one of the controls.
On a side note, I have not yet checked to see if MAME recognizes left/right gui
keys yet.
Thanks and keep up the great work!

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. From command line run "mame aliensyn"

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to be taken back to the command line. However, the entire screen goes
black, and keyboard is not responsive. I think ssh still works so a clean
reboot can be achieved be logging in remotely, but other than that one must cut
the power off which may corrupt the OS.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest MAME4ALL on Raspberry Pi from NOOBS_v1_2_1 install.

I have tried with and without recommended config.txt settings. Very
reproducible problem. Happens on many other ROMS, too. I think that one time

Sorry for trying to get in contact that way (unable to find your mail address).
I've c++ skills and have already made enhencements for my personal use that I'm
willing to share with the community.
There are two enhencements right now:
1) improvement of font quality and handling for mame4all-menu
- enhanced resolution of characters from 8x8 to 16x16
- modified the internal font regarding better resolution
- implemented possiblity to change font by replacement of configuration file
- created a starting set of 14 fonts that can be installed
- defined a file font format that can easily by edited with texteditor by
everyone
- custom font-file must simply be copied to /skins/font16x16.txt
- if not custom font-file is found during initialisation -> fallback to
internal font
=> status: final, can be shared
2) support of Ultimarcs PacLed Device
- when selecting a game within menu, the controls of the selected driver-files
are evaluated and indicator-led's will highlight the supported controls for
each game individual
=> status: works in general, but control to led-assignment is currently fixed,
-> todo: implement configuration by config.file
Please let me know if you are interested.
By the way: great job! I'm really enthusiastic about having mame on the
raspberry-pi!
Best regards
Stefan

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. run any game w/ mame4all-pi. i'm running from a command line and typing,
for example: "./mame ddragon"
2. from a keyboard, press [Tab] to bring up the menu
3. select "Input (general game)"
4. change any combination (for example, change "UI Cancel" from Esc to "J1
JoyButton 8 J1 JoyButton 9" (which is the start+select buttons at the same time
on a SNES USB controller).
5. select "Return to Main Menu"
6. select "Return to Game"
7. exit mame4all-pi (by pressing start+select on the SNES USB controller)
8. launch the game again
Expected Result:
* I expected the buttons I mapped last time to still be mapped.
Actual Results:
* The buttons are no longer mapped (I have to re-map them every time).
* Note: the buttons are mapped correctly during that instance of mame. (I'm able to escape the UI with them!) They're just not mapped the next time I load. :\

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. "apt-get install joystick"
2. Connect ps3 controller with a USB cable
3. Reboot pi
4. When booted, hit PS button on PS3 controller
5. jstest /dev/input/js0 shows axis 0 and 1 changing for left analogue stick
6. Launch mame4all, UI won't respond to axis 0/1, or buttons. Ingame
buttons/axis don't register any input from the PS3 controller.
7. Supporting info - pimenu and fba2x both register input from the ps3
controller OK. On the same setup, a wired xbox controller (with xboxdrv
running) works for all (mame4all, pimenu, fba2x).
When using the xbox controller, I see more entries of the form
"/dev/input/eventX" than I do with the PS3 controller. This may be related,
maybe not.
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected - ps3 controller input controls menus and ingame controls.
Actual - no response to any ps3 controller input in any part of mame4all,

Currently MAX_BUTTONS are limited to 16.
This is a problem for certain USB Joystick controllers like the Xin-Mo Dual
Arcade. It's recognized as 1 Gameport, so it's not possible to map enough
buttons for player 2.
It would be great if you would allow, let's say, 20 buttons for Joystick 1 (for
the Xin-Mo Controller).
Or, if you are concerned about the performance, you could add an option to the
makefile to have 1 Joystick with 20 or more buttons or 4 joysticks with the
standard 16 buttons instead...
Could you supply the necessary changes to use more than 16 buttons for joystick
one, so i could compile that locally ?
