Probably it doesn't hang but just doesn't show notifications for some reason.
Do you have notify-send installed and can you confirm that it works when run from command-line like this?
$ notify-send Jola Misio
And keep in mind that it doesn't inform about local commits made, it show notifications for changes fetched from remote.

Yes, i can confirm, notify-send works...
After some work, i have spotted that i running dude from another folder, thats why it doesn't worked for me, everyhink works now.
By the way, great job.
