Currently there is no option for the size of the split window, but I can add a new option, e.g. g:slimv_repl_split_size, that would define the size of the newly created window (lines or columns, depending on the split direction), having an empty default value (= automatic sizing by vim). Is that okay?

That would be great. It's been a long time since I have used slimv or reported issues, as I migrated to Emacs for a few years. I have another issue that makes it pretty unusable for me too that I'll go ahead and post now.
