I'm of two minds here too. I would default to always saying Int?
and Int!
but sometimes you might not care about the optional/unwrapping issues if you're just talking about the particular data type outside of any optional issues.
For example: "The parameter is of type Double!
here. The other method used a Float
but Double
is more appropriate here since you need more precision and blah blah blah."
But if I had to pick one general rule, I would go with being explicit about the exact type.
(I think this is more of a writing style issue than a coding one. I did slip in a writing tip already but maybe this should go in another document like the tutorial writing guide.)
