Hi, I'm a PPMC member of Apache Hivemall.

Who is currently driving this project?

I got the above request to merge some brickhouse functions into Hivemall. Anyone in klout interested in joining our incubator project? (cc: @jeromebanks @sofra )

Increasing project members is welcome for us toward Incubator graduation.

BTW, I saw that klout was/is using Hivemall in

@jeromebanks Thank you for your response. We, project members, are discussing about what functions to import. We need to list up candidates functions.

What exactly do you need on my part ?

What we expect to the brickhouse developers and Klout is

  • permit to import some brickhouse functions to Apache Hivemall with sending SGA to ASF
  • join our project as committer(s) for helping maintenance of imported functions. Committer roles are same as other Apache projects. We expect you to join PR reviews, bug fixes, discussion in ML, and release voting especially where brickhouse-origin function are related.

Can Hivemall just use the Brickhouse code as is?

We would change packages, source code formatting, and might apply some refactoring to keep (or improve) quality of functions. Copyrights are of course preserved. Usually relocated to NOTICE file when SGA is provided.

The github repos for brickhouse would remain unchanged, right ?

Right. Just donating some functions to our project.

@jeromebanks Thanks! I will contact you in Dec after our first ASF release (busy for that for the time moment). Paper work is just sending SGA to ASF secretary in my understanding.

@jeromebanks Are you clear on the IP for the brickhouse fork you've been maintaining? I know that your branch is more up-to-date -- but klout does still have interests in the branch they're using, and my talks with them stalled a month ago.

@myui @Downchuck @jeromebanks - Klout Data Science team would like to support the effort. However, we do need approval from legal (since IP is owned by Lithium Technologies who acquired Klout). We'll pass request 'permit to import some Brickhouse functions to Apache Hivemall with sending SGA to ASF' and justification for doing.

@sofra (cc: @Downchuck @jeromebanks )

Yes, it's my understanding. Just sending SGA from Klout to ASF.

I'll contact you again in Dec after finishing the first ASF release.

Hi all -- letting you know that Lithium Technologies sent the signed ASF license to @Downchuck today. I'm also happy to send a copy to @myui if needed.

@jeromebanks (cc: @Downchuck @sofra )

Sorry to be late. Bunch of works for the first ASF release has been settled.

We now started reviewing and merging brickhouse functions. Hivemall PPMC want to invite active Brickhouse developers as Hivemall PPMC and/or Committer.

Can you provide who want to be a committer (or PPMC) of Hivemall? I'm considering to invite you (brickhouse developers) as committer(s) and promote the primary/active developer to PPMC once the PR is merged.

@jeromebanks Sure. I'll invite you as the committer of Hivemall. To be a committer, ASF requires voting. I'll cast a vote in [email protected]. Please subscribe the mailing list.

@sofra Are you willing to join as Hivemall committer?

myui avatar myui commented on August 28, 2024

@jeromebanks I sent an invitation to be Hivemall committer to your e-mail address. Could you check and reply to it?
