There's a callback function that runs after each slide transition has completed. That should do it, right?

It doesn't run on page load though. you'd just have to manually set it to run on page load using standard javascript/jQuery.

Great, that makes sense and the page load isn't a problem. I'll look in to the callback now.

Finally got back to this and yes your instructions were spot on so thanks Kevin.
For anyone who's interested I did the following:

$(function () {
$('#slider-id').liquidSlider({
autoSlide: true,
callbackFunction: function() { myfunction() }
});
function myfunction() {
alert("Finished opening slide");
}
});

I places this in a seperate js file and included it below the other slider js files (not sure if that's relevant).
