Have you installed the openssl package? This looks like another OpenSSL/BoringSSL incompatibility problem.

Sometimes. Unfortunately, there are different versions of the OpenSSL library, or the Google equivalent "BoringSSL" on different Android devices. These libraries seems superficially to be compatible, but they're not. Not everybody who uses Curl needs to install OpenSSL and, if you install OpenSSL, it will stop other things working. Welcome to the wonderful world of Android Linux :)
