The meaning of count is varied for each text objects. Count doesn't always mean number of repetition. See also: #21 (comment)
For implementation details: Why do you choose range
rather than v:count
?
from vim-textobj-user.
The way I read the docs only range
is supported when using :call
(otherwise the fct gets executed for every line in the range). Feel free to correct me. Thanks for the link to #21, I must have missed that issue when searching for it. In that case a way to pass the count to text objects may be in order. Maybe a temporary buffer-local variable would be an easy way to bypass all the layers of indirection?

Try using v:count
and/or v:count1
. For example: https://github.com/Julian/vim-textobj-variable-segment/blob/d4453e1ad7cb0b47c7fb2ccf204729ab74361f5a/plugin/textobj/variable-segment.vim#L28-L32
