fancy_gendex's Introduction

Fancy Gendex

THE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS MODULE HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED.

Fancy Gendex Module for webtrees.

This module requires webtrees 1.7.11. Download the latest stable release here.

Description

A GENDEX file is an index of personal data and a short page URL. It is used to index a genealogical website by a genealogical search engine. The idea behind it is to join numerous pedigrees of individual genealogical researchers to a central database, while the individual genealogical researchers are still keeping all control over their data. Unlike a GEDCOM file a GENDEX file contains no information about the family relationships between individuals. This means the file is useless without the corresponding website.

The GENDEX file only contains public data.

The search engines below are known to accept the GENDEX textfile created by this module:

On the Fancy Gendex configuration page select the trees you want to include and push the button to create your GENDEX file.

Translations

You can help to translate this module. Updates to translations should be made at https://translate.webtrees.net/projects/justcarmen/. Changes made there will be pushed to the git repository periodically and will be available on the development version of the module. They will be included in the next release of this module.

UTF-8 Support

Hey Carmen,

Not sure if this is a problem with your module or a fault in the gendex file specification,

My lithuanian tree characters are all malformed in the txt file.

Fancy Gendex not working in webtrees 1.7.8

Since upgrading to webtrees 1.7.8 I got this error when updating the Gendex file.

/var/www/vhosts/weiland24.de/httpdocs/webtrees/modules_v3/fancy_gendex/app/FancyGendexClass.php:66 Class 'Zend_Filter_StringToUpper' not found #0 /modules_v3/fancy_gendex/app/FancyGendexClass.php:104 Error("Class 'Zend_Filter_StringToUpper' not found") #1 /modules_v3/fancy_gendex/app/FancyGendexClass.php:122 writeGendexChunks([Tree], [resource]) #2 /modules_v3/fancy_gendex/app/FancyGendexClass.php:133 writeGendexContent([resource]) #3 /modules_v3/fancy_gendex/app/FancyGendexClass.php:42 writeGendexFile('/var/www/vhosts/weiland24.de/h…', [resource]) #4 /modules_v3/fancy_gendex/module.php:73 createGendex() #5 /module.php:26 modAction('admin_config')

gendex.txt (1.7.12)

Creating the gendex.txt file in the webtrees root was not an issue prior to my migration to Fedora. Now with the Fedora OS which uses SELinux for additional security creates other potential exposures if SELinux sets the context for the webtrees root to be read/write. In this case, would it not be possible to allow the module to be configurable so that it could be written into the data directory and then manually copy it to the webtrees root?

Gendex permission error

Can't create GENDEX file. I have created it manually and chmod 644 it. I still get:

/volume1/web/webt/modules_v3/fancy_gendex/app/FancyGendexClass.php:40 fopen(/volume1/web/webt/gendex.txt.tmp): failed to open stream: Permission denied

request for less information in gendex file

Hello,

Thanks for making the Fancy Gendex Module.

Is it possible to make it possible to choose the items which will be included in the gendex file, like date of birth, place of birth, date of death, place of death. It can maybe done with a choosebox like for Replace_Chars. And for the dates possibility to choose between full layout (d M YY) or only the YEAR.

Thanks,
Jop
