The idea is that the test creates jupyter-witness
. It's checking that it can invoke a subcommand from a script in the same directory as the jupyter
script it's running, even if that directory is not on $PATH
.

Thanks for your fast reply. Actually
- jupyter
- jupyter-witness
are located at /var/tmp/portage/dev-python/jupyter_core-4.1.0/temp/pytest-of-brehler/pytest-0/test_not_on_path0/a
.
However, also manually executing /usr/bin/python2.7 /var/tmp/portage/dev-python/jupyter_core-4.1.0/temp/pytest-of-brehler/pytest-0/test_not_on_path0/a/jupyter witness
fails, whereas
jupyter-witness
(with -) can be executed without a failure.

OK, so the test failure is legitimate - that manual check should work.

Hey there, I'm going through old issues and it seems to me that it makes sense to close this one, as there has been no activity for several months.
As @takluyver reported, the error seems to have been a legitimate error, and hopefully fixed in the Gentoo packaging / portage testing environement.
Thanks everyone and happy hacking!
