I had Neovim 0.2.0-dev installed from the Ubuntu standard package. Installing 0.2.1-dev from the unstable ppa made this work.

I tried with Neovim 0.1x version and confirmed that it can not run.
I do not know Neovim well.
Perhaps Neovim 0.1x does not seem to support funcref.
However, after upgrading to Neovim version 0.2.0, it worked fine.
If you do not mind, I recommend playing in the 0.2.0 version.

It works flawlessly in 0.2.1-dev.
