I have not worked with NVIDIA GPU, but I do have a container that is able to use Intel QSV. So I don't think that a container in general prevents the use of hardware accelerated applications.

Which application are you trying to use?

I am trying to use steamOS.
So everything works fine except the GPU, I wil try to make glxspheres64 work or any other APP that uses GPU (haven't tried that yet due time)
I will also try next week with another GPU card (maybe SteamOS doesn't support the card I am using), and I'll let you know if it has the same behavior.

I think what's missing is mesa support (opengl).
Just thinking out loud: Having OpenGL support with a software renderer as default might highly increase the number of GUI apps that can be run in this docker container.

https://github.com/utensils/docker-opengl seems to have assembled something in that direction (but without the vnc / webinterface part): A docker container with framebuffer that can run opengl apps, even if no GPU is present.
