I don't know for sure because neither change appears to be in the APNs docs yet. Though I emphasize that I'm only speculating, I suspect everything will be backward-compatible.

If the changes aren't backward compatible, that's true. Pushy already supports customizable maximum lengths for push notifications, and callers would, of course, be free to not use the category
field. That said, token collection and storage is already beyond Pushy's scope, and iOS version detection would be, too.
