Storage issues for backup restore about sms-backup-plus HOT 6 CLOSED

wondering if this would become an issue. how many messages did you restore?

Over 2000 - Mainly because the '200' limit seemed to only restore 200 messages total, rather than 200 per thread, as per my Messages app settings. As such, I let it restore everything, and then let my limits kick in to go back to my 200 max messages per thread. I eventually got this working last night after removing SMS Backup+ to free up the space again, reinstalling from scratch, and restoring my messages.

I would really consider adding a paging mechanism if you're going to make an application that downloads such large amounts of data though - I've run into similar problems before, and always make sure I add some kind of controls to keep my storage/memory usage to a set limit. Also, make sure that the app clears out any previously cached messages when it starts up - I swear that when SMS Backup+ crashed out, it was leaving me with less and less free space than when I first started it.

i haven't used it to restore thousands of messages yet, so haven't run into this problem, but paging / cleaning up / etc is definitely the way to go.

also i'd love to implement "restore X per thread" to avoid this problem - but haven't found a good way to do it yet.

Delete cachedir from time to time.
