I've noticed that too. I've been doing my testing using a fairly dated global install of vows (I think in the 0.5.x series). All tests pass in that environment, so code quality shouldn't be suffering. I don't have access to the machine at the moment, but once I do I'm going to check the exact version and document it in devDependencies. Then I'll update vows and fix test failures.
