Make sure you're using the Passport middleware:

app.use(passport.initialize());
app.use(passport.session());

See here for more info:
http://passportjs.org/guide/configuration.html

Dynamic helpers are an entirely different thing, they're used to give data to views, so if you're only using the request object inside of a route, you don't need them.

Thank you for the suggestion but I am already using the passport middleware.

So I was testing around a little bit and I have found out that the user object gets dezerialised and is available just for the next page after login. After that it gets lost.

I will build a very basic test app later and upload it.

Closing. Please re-open if you are still encountering issues and have a reproducible test case.

Sorry I was a little busy last weeks.

I have finally found my mistake: I was linking the wrong way! Instead of doing
a href="/index"
I did
a href="<% siteUrl %>/index"
I got this from some tutorial back then when I started learning express and recently found out that this is wrong. So for everyone having those issues: Check your html-links as well!
