My first thought is the issue is a result of the latest update of WordPress broke the plugin or some other issue.

It would seem the this issue stems from how my Web Host control panel handles redirects. If you are hosting with DirectAdmin you must create the parked domain using Alias Name check rather than pointer. Only configure CNAME for the www of the parked domain and use A name record as previously described. You do have the add a wildcard option of the primary TLD to get the wild are option to work properly in the HTTPD configuration for that specific domain. There are notes in the DirectAdmin site on how to configure a wildcard.
