Thank you for your report!
I can't understand the cause of it now.
Currently, vsnip uses vim-vital-vs module it using Lua in only a neovim environment.
https://github.com/hrsh7th/vim-vsnip/blob/master/autoload/vital/_vsnip/VS/Text/Diff.vim#L143
I guess the error can be avoidable when we use Lua command in function context...?
I will try it soon.

Could you try it? (I have no environment to reproduce it... sorry...)
