Plan:
- starting simple, adding things to the model piece by piece
- 1 single location to start
- No mobility, seeding continuously into each location
- Births and deaths: recycle deaths to become births continuously -- pop size is constant
- Run model for ~30 years to get to stable initial conditions, fit after that
- fit cyclical seasonality cosine function
