Thanks for posting this workaround. This is something that a lot of people have requested, so we'll most likely have it out in the next version of the gem.

Actually we already use the rails filter parameters in addition to Honeybadger params filters:
honeybadger-ruby/lib/honeybadger/notice.rb

The README mentions this for Rails 2, but needs to be updated to make it clear that Rails 3 filters are also included. Also, this is documented in the cucumber features:
