Commenting to add that maximizing/restoring the HeidiSQL window does not impact how often this occurs. This can also occur regardless of connection status.

Never saw that persistence yet. I am trying with a very fast mouse-move, and switching to another app by Alt+Tab, but the balloon is always hiding immediately.

Sidenotes:

  • the balloon hint also hides automatically after 10 seconds
  • apart from that, the balloon only gets explicitely hidden when the mouse leaves the status bar. That could probably be tricked with a high-sensitivity mouse setting, or something other special setting which causes that StatusBarMouseLeave event not to be triggered.

Please update to the latest release first, and then to the latest build, to verify the issue is still there.

I have confirmed that updating to the latest installer (12.6.0.6765) appears to resolve this issue, though there are some caveats. I updated Heidi on the system, and working on it locally shows normal expected behavior. However, the behavior I reported was experienced while working on the same system via VPN+RDP, and with a different (some might say 'inferior') mouse. I'll try it again this evening once I'm back in my normal environment. I'm totally willing to accept that the particulars of my usage, not to mention the particular mouse I'm using, contribute to this issue.

That said, the 10-second timeout did work as expected. Besides the timeout, the only way I could get the tooltip to dismiss was by hovering over the hot spot briefly and mousing out towards the main Heidi window. Simply moving in and out of the status bar wouldn't do it - it had to be over the hot spot. I did not test any alt-tab behavior.

Thanks for reporting back. So there remains an issue, which I cannot reproduce here.
I just looked into the code, and I cannot see how it happens. So I guess it's just a rare case with remote sessions or virtual machines.

I am also unable to reproduce the issue with VPN+RDP. Whatever it was, it is gone now. :)
