This is not a bug. Even not the problem of 'weight'.
You set the width of CircleImageView to match_parent which means that the width of screen.
All the CircleImageView want to do is to scale your picture to cover itself.
Set the width to 96dp should work well.

Works as expected. If you set the width of your CircleImageView to match_parent, the image is stretched uniformly and then cropped to a circle with the requested height, in your case 96dp.
