As said in issue #70 if the problem with HTMLPanel as a base class is that the parser only calls into the String html constructor which means we cannot specify any other required arguments for our widgets then we should imho not use HTMLPanel but ComplexPanel/ComplexWidget as a base.
What was the reason for HTMLPanel? So that the user can mix in our widgets with custom HTML?
If we therefore get the disadvantage mentioned above I would say do not use HTMLPanel. If the user wants to use HTML he needs to use the HTML or HTMLPanel widgets.

I am going to close this issue since we believe that this isn't the right approach for the library at this time.
