A fix for this is out in version 1.10.2. Please try it out.

1.10.2 doesn't seem to have been published to npm https://www.npmjs.com/package/@grpc/grpc-js.

Looks like the behaviour is still different:

  • 1.9.14: prefinish, finish, close, cancelled
  • 1.10.0: prefinish, cancelled, finish, close
  • 1.10.2: prefinish, finish, cancelled, close

For our use case however it works fine as we only rely on cancelled and finish. I'll leave it up to you to keep this issue opened or to close it.
