There doesn't seem to be a way for LaTeX packages to access the --output-directory
that is given on the command line. See this and this. Ideally, the --output-directory
would be stored in a macro, which would then make adding this functionality simple.
In the next release (mostly complete), I will be adding a package option called outputdir
(or similar) that will allow the path for temporary files to be specified. That should provide much of the desired functionality. But it will unfortunately have to be specified manually in the document, rather than at the command line.
