It's not for everyone, but we've seen it in production, and it's a good baseline for wider PWA support.
If you want more control over your icons and splash screens, then you should definitely generate your own. There's also been some changes in iOS 13 that we're not fully across yet, but the code isn't harmful there.

As an update (and I'm closing this): we see lots of use now.
v8.dev uses us as a lazy load just for iOS, via unpkg, with no specific version in mind, which is good practice to always get the latest fixes.
