Funny thing, I have stats tracking user's downloads over at MaterialDesignIcons.com and the funnel icon is one of the top 10 downloaded icons. I'm thinking people don't like the stock one.

Generally I would say use the stock icon, but clearly people would disagree for this particular icon.

Yup, that's the filter icon.
Our recommendation would be to use the provided filter icon, as that will be consistent with Google apps, and others adopting material design and using this icon.

@jestelle But, but it looks like something that's related to text, almost like the centering of texts (but for some reason in an upside-down pyramid shape). It's very similar to the files that have the text "format_align" inside their names, like those:

The new filter icon isn't intuitive. It doesn't look like a filter at all... Please re-consider.
A funnel is much more known than just multiple lines, one on top of another...
It even resembles the previous icons of Wifi reception, only it's straight lines instead of arcs:

This seems really confusing.
And in my app, where I allow both sorting a filtering (link here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lb.app_manager ), it will be even more confusing.

I understand being consistent so using the existing would make sense - however, even the newly uplifted Google Sheets uses the funnel for its filter icon....

We really need funnel icon out of the box. Tons of strange icon exist, but one of the commonly used doesn't.

It seems that (most?) of the requests have been addressed in the meantime. @AndroidDeveloperLB mind if I close this issue, and if any icons are missing you create new issues for them? Preferably one (set) of icons at a time, so its easier to track if the icon has been addressed or not.

How hard is it to add the funnel (that looks like a funnel)? There's really no reason for every new design spec/library to reinvent well established and recognizable wheels (or funnels!)

So far, I haven't even come across the stock Material funnel being used in an app. Not by chance, so far anyway, so it can't be that pervasive yet.

Found an easier solution! Use Font Awesome instead.

jk. That's not a real solution. However it is the one I'm going with when I hit this sort of road-block.

Funnel Icon, please...! I can attest that my users are completely confused by the current icon. They feel it is very hard to distinguish from Sort icon, which is often placed right alongside it. It's hard to understand in what way it is a funnel at all.
