Well, yeah. InlineQuery is likely nil. Trying to access fields on a nil thing results in a panic.

if update.InlineQuery != nil { // doesn't cause a panic, still lets you check
    log.Printf("Got an inline query with ID: %s\n", update.InlineQuery.ID)
} else {
    log.Printf("Update was not an inline query.").
}

well, what made me open this issue is that with v2 checking on update.InlineQuery.Query is okay, so I had some issues migrating to v4

Yeah, unfortunately there were a few backwards incompatible changes between those releases. If something can be a pointer now, it's likely possible for it to be nil.
