When you init plugin in header, there isn’t any markup loaded yet, so there isn't any elements to work on it.

This is essential knowledge for web developers. I dont see the need to mention it.
Otherwise, this is a good habbit to include js at the end of document.

Jquery often uses $( document ).ready() to do things like this in the head. While I agree its better to put JS at the bottom and who doesn't, it just seems to me that if it took looking the an example's source to realize this, it should probably be worth noting.
