Maybe you could experiment with saving the window on CmdlineEnter. Also make sure that you exclude the cursor fields (lnum, col) from the dictionary passed to winrestview, as winsaveview saves cursor state too by default.

Well, resizing the window in the middle of a 2-char search would break the plugin anyway, by design, since the set of matches we are labeling are the ones inside the window. (Who in their right mind would want to do this in the first place? :D) As for the question, I thought forcing a :redraw on VimResize might do something, but apparently it doesn't. I'm not sure that going down to the command line counts as a CursorMoved event, but I might be mistaken.

Anyway, I'm closing this now, but if you (or anyone else) will have some technical insights about this issue (i.e. the content disappearing on resize), feel free to share it here.
