I also ran into the same issue. I've submitted Pull Request #47 which removes this.

Same for me as well, if you don't want to remove the conf you can just run this:

/usr/share/logstash/bin/logstash-plugin install logstash-filter-multiline

from ansible-role-logstash.

Without patching or a new release, a more Ansible solution would be to override the variable logstash_install_plugins to add the missing filter. Something like:

    - name: Setup Logstash
      role: geerlingguy.logstash
      vars:
        logstash_install_plugins:
        - logstash-input-beats
        - logstash-filter-multiline
