I don't think the module will work out of the box on Debian, at least it's not part of the current integration tests and I haven't used it on Debian myself.
It's likely only small changes (potentially the package name and the service definition (the current implementation is based on upstart) as indicated. I'd be happy to see a PR adding Debian support. I'd be happy to expand the current beaker integration tests to then make sure that doesn't get broken in the future.

ok, I finally broke down and began to learn rspec-puppet. So I blew away the old fork (and the associated #76 pull request) and am starting over to re-implement this functionality, only this time covered by a test suite.
