@flysofast you can try specifying nil path while initializing tesseract, like follows:
[tesseract initPrivateWithDataPath:nil
language:@"eng"
engineMode:yourModeHere];
the function is private. so perhaps you could add its declaration into .h file of your fork.

@flysofast, sorry for misspelling. instead of the nil, you should specify NOT nil. you should specify the exact pass to the traineddata folder inside the user Documents folder.

That exposes the private method, which isn't ideal. We should work to come up with a public method that achieves this functionality. The other thing needed in @ws233's suggestion is to also expose the private property dataPath
and set it to the location you want. But I don't understand why the public method was deprecated before, so we need to investigate why that wasn't working as a solution.

There was no special reason as I remember.
I just added a code, which allows to init tes without copying data into the Documents folder. And that was the way it worked in the ealier beginning.
So after I added the code, G8 marked the method as deprecated and than even removed it from the header.
But the code seems to work correctly, so I think we could easely move it back to the header.
And as @kevincon already said, the method is not ideal and its name is ugly, so should be cleaned and renamed.
So far, I'm in process of adding initial time configs to the tes. A bit later, I'm going to make this function public as well.

This issue is resolved by the new functionality in #113. See the bottom of this page in the Wiki for information about how to use it: https://github.com/gali8/Tesseract-OCR-iOS/wiki/Advanced-Tesseract-Configuration
