The calls to malloc() in ssh_api.h had to be malloc(size_t) actually, maybe that was the problem initially.

Nope, the size_t thing isn't really related, but good catch!
FWIW, here are the flags I use: https://github.com/quixdb/squash/blob/master/cmake/ExtraWarningFlags.cmake#L9. They do help catch a fair number of errors.

Well, I think all the remaining errors are in my code (happens when you copy the another plugin instead of starting from scratch), though if I add those flags when compiling libssc I see a lot of issues, but merely including ssc_api.h doesn't trigger anything else.
