I guess it should be left to the database adapter implementation, some allow it, and some don't. Certain IDs contain metadata such as timestamps, process and machine identifiers (MongoDB's ObjectId), and I am leaning against having the client generate this info.

Seems fair, so how would one go about making use of the adapter
implementation? I assume it would use one of the .before() or .after()
functions and run some custom code for it
