We decided to postpone this because it will make the IPC protocol and code more complex and I might need help from Gabi or Thomas to get it working. There is a lot of refactoring that could be done but I'm not sure what I need to do to make it possible.
It's also tricky since I have to keep the Windows in-process and Linux IPC implementations in lock-step. This will be easier once I start on #3712 or if I just put a fake IPC layer in-process. (It's a slight waste but it might make the code simpler?)
