Error on compiling - "error: possibly undefined macro" about firehol HOT 3 OPEN

Another error I've spotted: On our deployment script I tried commenting the lines that clone and compile Firehol so that I can apply the latest version, but Firehol is not applying its rules, it started silently failing.

Evidence (I've removed the shell info, it has sensitive information):

I would be glad if this issue be given a high priority. Its affecting one production server, its urgent that we fix it.

Due to the emergency I've reinstalled this particular server to a fresh Ubuntu 16.04 instance and it worked, now Firehol is compiling correctly. Unfortunately I can't help on debugging this server anymore, as it was restored to a clean state.

I still have some open questions about this incident and I would love to get some help on figuring out what could have caused this. Why autoconf started failing on compiling Firehol out of a sudden? We haven't done anything on the server. Why old version Firehol commands started silently failing (exit status zero, no output to stdout/stderr)?
