This is a Codehaus issue, so in theory should report it as Codehaus bug (type HAUS for "haus chore" I think).
I can't do anything about it. But Codehaus is rather inactive these days, so I wouldn't hold my breath there.
Archive has been disfunctional for longest time.
Main question to ask may well be "should we move to Google groups".

I think it's fine to have multiple places; but once we figure out what to do with Wiki/Blogs (something that's on-going), things should unravel from there. We could then give access to anyone who wants to organize preferences for forums etc.

I like Google Groups or Nabble though I've run into problems with both.

I used to swear by Nabble from a usability point of view, but a few

years ago they introduced this ugly feature:

I don't like the idea of posts or entire forums going away once

they become inactive. I've seen this happen one too many times.
Secondly, there is no way to look up a forum by its name. Their search
engine will locate individual forum posts, but not forum names.

Google Group's UI is "okay" but their implementation has gotten

much worse over time. I've run across numerous cases where a post takes
3-5 seconds to load. And this has been going on for months now so I
don't see it improving anytime soon.

That's it. Pick your poison :)

Thank you for additional ideas. Persistence of discussions is an absolute must, since googling is a reasonable way to find answers to commonly recurring questions.

I think this is something good to discuss on dev and/or users list.
