Ok, I finally found time to implement this. I hope it works conveniently enough; basically there are three ways to do it, so hopefully at least one works:

  1. DefaultPrettyPrinter can now be constructed with deserializer root-value separator (instead of space)
  2. JsonGenerator has 'setRootValueSeparator()' that can be called on constructed generator instance
  3. JsonFactory likewise has 'setRootValueSeparator()', which defines baseline for generators constructed

I chose not to pipe this all the way through the ObjectMapper/ObjectWriter, as it would add further state on databinding, only for pushing it through. One can construct ObjectWriter variants with different JsonFactory instances (in 2.1), so this should not be a huge issue, even when differing separators are needed.
