For what it's worth, some of these patterns are easy to understand in python if only to be used in a different language later!

Hi andybak,
I see Design Patterns as useful communication tools. Thus although some of them are too verbose for a language like python, they form a nice way of sharing ideas and code between developers. Regarding the strategy pattern, it actually uses exactly what you mention (functions as first class citizens), which is either not supported or is weakly supported in other languages.

re: Strategy pattern. Yes it does, but what's does all that class boilerplate add?
Must admit I haven't been through more than a few of the patterns. But I didn't feel they added much to my understanding of design patterns in Python other than to make me ask "Why would you bother".
