You can simply install a cross compiler directly on Linux, Windows or MacOS and compile there (without a need for brickstrap
). I'm using the Carlson Minot ARM Linux compiler on MacOS.
Please ensure that you use a GNU Linux ABI compiler version (no bare metal version), these include all necessary headers and libs to create working executables for the brick on your platform.
You need to set some environment variables for make
so that it uses the right toolchain, like:
TOOLCHAIN=/usr/local/carlson-minot/crosscompilers/bin
export CC=${TOOLCHAIN}/arm-none-linux-gnueabi-gcc
export CXX=${TOOLCHAIN}/arm-none-linux-gnueabi-g++
export AR=${TOOLCHAIN}/arm-none-linux-gnueabi-ar
export RANLIB=${TOOLCHAIN}/arm-none-linux-gnueabi-ranlib
export LD=${TOOLCHAIN}/arm-none-linux-gnueabi-ld
Please be aware that the C++ binding uses some features from C++11, so you must choose a relatively new version of the compiler.

Ah, you're right. It seems there was something else wrong with the other toolchains I tried. Even though one I tried was not a bare metal toolchain. I finally found one that works on windows: https://sourcery.mentor.com/GNUToolchain/release2841
Unfortunately, it is not free. I'll find another toolchain in 30 days :)
