The behaviour you both see when ordering is expected and is a product of how Baum
returns its results.
Baum
internally returns all of its results sorted by the lft
column to preserve the "appropiate" ordering for Nested Set operations. So, when you specify an orderBy
clause in your query, you're actually adding a second orderBy
clause to the internal lft
one.
Taking one of your previous examples:
Thing::roots()->orderBy('label');
The SQL generated would actually be something like:
select * from "things" where "parent_id" is null order by "lft" asc, "name" asc
If you want to ditch the default ordering which Baum
does, you need to use the reOrderBy
method which I patched into the Query builder which will first clear all previous sorting options.
Continuing with the previous example, to return root nodes sorted only by the label
field:
Thing::roots()->reOrderBy('label');
from baum.
I am experiencing the same issue.
$node = CategoryList::where('key', '=', 'auto-make') -> first();
$children = $node -> children() -> orderBy('value', 'asc') -> get();
from baum.
