This is in Armory's future, for sure. It will be much easier once I update all the blockchain utilities (coming soon!). Just be aware that you must use a trusted connection for Armory. It has no capability to defend itself in the wild.
If you want a temporary, stop-gap solution, you could use sshfs/nfs to make the blockchain files appear as if they're native on your laptop, and modify the code to connect to a non-localhost IP. This is about 20 mins worth of work in Linux. Not so easy in Windows....
