An idea

When we get to the recording step for the candidate
If we don't detect audio after a period of time
and we see that there are multiple audio devices
A new video appears and says we are having trouble with your audio. We see there are multiple audio devices so let's move to the next device and and have you start again.
Then we move back and let the moderator ask the question again.

If we have tried all the devices thalen we have a video say "we are really really sorry we just aren't getting any audio. Can we arrange to have someone take with you about this so we can learn from this and make it better in the future. Also, you are welcome to try using your recorder link from another device"

As discussed in the call on 9/2

If you go to cc.enciv.org/candidate-conversation-candidate-recorder, the first page you see is what we call the preamble. After you click on Start Recording, you will see the recorder page. The task we are talking about is to create a new page, that goes between the two steps.

On the call we drew this:
https://r3.whiteboardfox.com/3568365-2594-0786
image

The new page will have:

a) Banner across the top (same as from recorder page)

b) video window showing the candidate. The video window should be in the same place as the speaking (big) window on the recorder page.

c) change camera button (if more than one camera)

d) change mic button (if more than one mic)

e) mic-meter - something that shows there is sound coming in on the mic. To me, this is a vertical bar that goes up and down. But there are lots of ways to convert the idea of sound into an image. We just want to let the candidate know there is sound coming in.

f) a Start button (though it could be Next or Begin or some other word) that takes you to the recorder page

g) a bullet list of thinks the candidate should check before beginning the recording. Here's a tentative list

i) Does the microphone work (with the mic meter right below/next to this bullet)

ii) Are your head and shoulders visible in the video

iii) Is the camera at eye level

iv) Is there enough light coming from in front of you

David is going to make an engineer driven rapid prototype of this, hopefully by next Wednesday. At that point, we should do UI clean up of it.
